Botox / Xeomin

Wrinkles. Everyone ends up with them, eventually, but not everyone wants to keep them! Whether you’re just after a more refreshed and relaxed appearance, or you’re tired of people thinking you’re angry when you’re just concentrating, these injections might be just what you’re looking for.

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are some of the most widely used injectable treatments available today. Over the course of a lifetime, we make countless facial expressions every time we laugh, speak, squint, frown, eat, or smile. Those expressions are made by the muscles in our face contracting, and over time those contractions form fine lines and wrinkles, especially in the areas around our brows, forehead, eyes, and mouth.

Both Botox® Cosmetic and Xeomin®, the two neuromodulators we use at CHARM, are formulated using purified proteins that temporarily prevent those muscle contractions, smoothing out the skin and softening fine lines and wrinkles. When you schedule consistent treatments, we can maintain those wrinkle-free results.

Who Might Benefit From Botox Treatments?

If you have frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet that are making you feel older or less attractive, you are one of those who would most likely benefit from this treatment. But rest assured that we will review your health history before your treatment to make sure that you are a candidate for these injectables.

Will I Still Be Able To Smile After Treatment?

If you’ve never been treated with a neuromodulator, it is entirely normal to feel concerned about how your face will feel afterward. Botox® Cosmetic and Xeomin® don’t prevent you from making expressions altogether, and we very specifically target only those muscles that are the cause of wrinkles and fine lines. You won’t be numb, and you’ll still make expressions, but they will be less exaggerated and more subtle after your treatment. You’ll also still look and feel like yourself, just more smoothed out and relaxed. Our goal is always to help you look and feel like a more youthful, or simply just refreshed, well-rested version of you.

What Is A Treatment Like?

After your initial consultation (which generally takes a little longer), our neuromodulator appointments are quick, which is why they are often referred to as “lunch break” appointments. If needed, you can schedule them during your lunch break and then return to work. Typically, appointments take 20 to 30 minutes to complete, and then you can get on with your day.

In addition to using ultra-fine needles for the injections, Dr. Hanson may use numbing cream, ice, or a vibration distractor to keep you comfortable for the duration of the treatment. You can resume all of your normal activities once your appointment is over, but should refrain from strenuous activity for 24 hours.

How Long Do The Results Last For And How Often Should I Get Injections?

With both Botox and Xeomin, results generally last about three to four months. It is, ultimately, up to your body how long your results last, and most people get a sense of this over time so that they can schedule their appointments appropriately. Once your body begins to metabolize the ingredients of the injectable, you’ll start to see a gradual return of wrinkles. It happens slowly, rather than all at once, so you don’t have to worry about suddenly waking up with a drastically altered appearance.

Typically, most patients schedule follow-up treatments every three to four months throughout the year. If you aren’t sure how long they last for you, then simply schedule a follow-up treatment as soon as you notice the effects wearing off. That way, we can help you maintain your smooth, refreshed appearance. If needed, we can pre-schedule your treatments so that all you need to do is set a reminder on your phone and then show up for your appointment.

Can You Build Up A Tolerance?

Your body can build up a tolerance to the proteins in both Botox and Xeomin. This means that, over time, your body might learn how to handle the proteins and their effects, making them less effective.

Typically, it takes years for this to happen, if it ever does. But if tolerance is of concern to you, or we notice that you’re not getting the results that we would expect, we can help develop a treatment plan that will keep your body guessing. For instance, we might alternate between Botox and Xeomin so that your body has less chance to build a tolerance. We know how these injectables work, and we will develop a treatment plan that will help you get the best results. All you have to do is show up and let us take care of the rest.
